A fire in a data center is catastrophic — and water makes it worse. This layer is about detecting trouble before it's visible and suppressing it without destroying the equipment you're trying to protect.

The goal is to act before there's ever a flame.

In a room full of irreplaceable, energised electronics, fire safety works differently. You can't use water sprinklers over live IT, and by the time a normal detector triggers, damage is already done. So data center fire protection is built around very early detection and clean, non-destructive suppression.

Early detection: VESDA

VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) is an aspirating system that continuously samples the air and can detect the earliest particles of overheating — long before smoke is visible. That head start is often enough to intervene before suppression is ever needed.

Clean-agent suppression

When suppression is required, data centers use gaseous clean agents — never water. Agents like Novec 1230, FM200 or inert gases flood the space and extinguish fire without leaving residue or harming electronics or people at design concentrations.
